Volunteers from the Audit Commission promote a greener community
Organic farming carnival at GREEN@EASTERN

Several members of the Audit Commission volunteered at an organic farming carnival organised by GREEN@EASTERN of Po Leung Kuk on 17 June (Saturday) this year to promote local organic farming and green living to the community.

On the morning of the carnival, our volunteers met at the Eastern Community Green Station in Shau Kei Wan to serve as hosts of two game booths themed around local organic farming.  The booths drew streams of passers-by, to whom our volunteers introduced in detail the local organic farming industry and produce.  Quite a lot of visitors, especially the elderly and children, lined up for the games, filling the booths with joy and laughter.  Though it was a hot and stuffy day with bouts of storms and heavy rain, our volunteers kept the spirit up from morning to dusk to spread the green message to the community.

Professor Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, came by with his wife to show his support.  “Organic farming brings better protection to the local farming environment and is indeed an important link in sustainable farming development.  The practice also offers consumers more choices of high quality vegetables.  My appreciation goes to the organiser for hosting this activity, which enhances the public’s knowledge and interest in local organic produce and promotes a green lifestyle.  I also want to thank my colleagues for their time in bringing this meaningful event to the community,” said Professor Lam.
