Audit Commission staff join hands to promote
upcoming District Council election

Soon to be held on 10 December 2023 (Sunday), the upcoming District Council (DC) election is exceptionally meaningful and important for Hong Kong as it will be the first DC poll since the improvement of district governance.  As part of the Government, the Audit Commission (Audit) has been devoting concerted efforts to promote the election through various means and channels and to encourage members of the public to exercise their civic responsibilities by casting votes.

On 2 December (Saturday), for instance, around 30 staff members of Audit took part in a publicity activity, in which they set up a promotion booth on a pedestrian lane near San Hui Market at Yan Oi Town Square, Tuen Mun and handed out leaflets to the public in the neighbourhood.  They got useful information across to the community, such as the opening hours of the polling stations and the delineation of geographical constituencies, and encouraged the public to vote in the election on 10 December.  Professor Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, said that the promotion event was organised by the colleagues in short notice and was voluntarily attended by over one-tenth of staff of the Department, for which he expressed his deep gratitude. The support from Audit staff for the DC election was an exemplary display of teamwork of the civil service.

Audit set up a promotion booth in Tuen Mun for the DC election.  Over one-tenth of Audit staff,
including directorates, auditors and examiners of various divisions, as well as staff of
the Corporate Services Division of the Department, took part in the promotion activity.

In addition to contributing their free time on weekends, Audit staff also made the most of their lunch breaks on work days to hand out promotional leaflets to colleagues of the civil service and members of the public in the area around Queensway Government Offices, where the Audit headquarters is located.

Audit staff chanted in unison the slogan for the DC election.

Audit staff has been making use of every opportunity to make face-to-face connections with members of the public to promote the DC election in different occasions and activities.  As the leader of the Department, Professor Lam makes himself a role model by actively engaging in a variety of promotional campaigns for the election during his free time.  He also teams up with colleagues to tell the good stories of the DC election and Hong Kong to members of the public of different ages via a range of volunteer activities.

On 18 November (Saturday), Director of Audit participated in the
"Night Vibes District Council Election" activity at
Belcher Bay Promenade, Kennedy Town to promote the election.

During the "Night Vibes District Council Election" activity, Director of Audit explained
the significance of this DC election to the public.

On 25 November (Saturday), Director of Audit promoted the DC election at the
"District Council Election into the Community" promotion booth at Po Lam, Tseung Kwan O.

In the "District Council Election into the Community" activity, Director of Audit made
“DC election badges” with members of the public.  The handicraft session doubled as
an important lecture of civic education for children to cultivate knowledge
about DC elections and voting rights from an early age.

On 2 December (Saturday), around 30 volunteers from Audit went to an elderly neighbourhood
centre in Tin Shui Wai, where they spent time with the elderly and
handed out leaflets to them to promote the DC election.

The Director of Audit (first on the left) called for support from the elderly and
staff of the centre as well as Audit staff and asked them
to encourage their families and friends to vote in the DC poll.

Audit adopts a multi-pronged approach in promoting the DC election.  Apart from promoting through in-person exchanges with the public, we also conduct a fair share of online promotion in this digital age, such as by posting messages to encourage voting on our social media accounts and making a promotional video for broadcast on different online platforms, so as to draw public attention to the election.

In the promotional video, Director of Audit reminds the public to vote in the election.

friends with disabilities to cast their votes.

Audit strives to promote the DC election to the public and encourage voters to cast their votes.  As part of the Government, Audit also makes effort in promoting the election within the Department to remind staff to exercise their civic responsibilities on the voting day.

Audit has set up a monitor at the reception to show promotion videos of the DC election,
from which colleagues may learn more about the poll.

Audit staff has put up posters in the office to promote the election.

The Commission held a DC election slogan writing activity, in which colleagues showcased their creativity.  Entries were printed on posters and displayed all around the office to remind colleagues of the important occasion.

The 2023 DC election is just two days away and we will spare no effort in promoting it.  On 9 December, Audit will set up a promotion booth.  On 10 December, i.e. the election day, some staff members of Audit will serve as polling staff at voting stations and the Department will release a new promotional video on the day to call for voters to turn out at the poll.

Together we at the Audit Commission stand as one to promote the 2023 DC election.  Cast your vote at the DC election for a better community!
