Director of Audit spoke at a sharing session of the Rotary Club of Kowloon West

On 24 January 2024 (Wednesday), Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, gave a speech on “Public sector auditing and governance systems” at the invitation of the Rotary Club of Kowloon West.  

Prof. Lam emphasised the close bond between the work of the Audit Commission (Audit) and the public.  In addition to examining the accounts of the Government, Audit also performs regular value-for-money audits, the subject matters of which are of much relevance to the public’s livelihood.  Therefore, Audit has the duty to make known to the public the nature of the Department’s work and to tell the good stories of public sector auditing.

Committed to professionalism and innovation, Audit has been striving for excellence in the provision of independent public sector audit services.   To achieve this goal, Audit attaches great importance to exchanges with different parties.  In his speech, Prof. Lam also shared how Audit had been playing an active role in reaching out and promoting collaborations with audit bodies from Mainland as well as all over the world, on learning from Mainland their auditing skills and experience, participating in the audit projects of United Nations, etc.

To give the participants a more in-depth understanding of the Department, Prof. Lam also shared how Audit staff reach out to the public, and having exchanges with local accounting organisations. He also highlighted the Department’s participation in community services during the leisure lives of Audit staff, such as visits to the elderly and promotion activities on the integration of the physically handicapped and the able-bodied.  He said that the Department would continue to provide high quality public sector auditing service and, at the same time, contribute to building a better community.
