Delegation of Guiyang Municipal Government visited the Audit Commission
In the afternoon of 25 April 2025 (Friday), a five-member delegation of Guiyang Municipal Government, led by Mr Wang Hong, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guiyang Municipal Committee and the Mayor of the Guiyang Municipal Government, paid a visit to the headquarters of the Audit Commission (Audit) in the company of Mr Zhao Jinguang, Director of the Department of Administration and Finance, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, along with officials of Audit, received the delegation. The two parties exchanged views on further strengthening friendship and cooperation between Guiyang and Hong Kong.
During the meeting, Mr Wang briefed the Audit officials on the current situation of Guiyang, while Mr Ken Liang, Deputy Director of Audit, introduced to the delegation the responsibilities and daily work of Audit. Over the past few years, issues in environmental remediation, in particular those related to water quality and waterworks, had been a key area of focus of Guiyang’s public audit system. In this context, the two sides shared and exchanged experience surrounding the relevant audit subjects based on audit reports published in recent years by Audit.
Prof. Lam remarked that during the in-depth exchange with the delegation, he had the chance to have a discussion with Mr Wang, who came from a professional accounting background, on public sector auditing, public governance and enhancement of people’s quality of life. Recalling President Xi’s important directive to Guizhou Province “to actively align with the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA)” during his visit to the province this year, Prof. Lam commented that Hong Kong, as part of GBA, had all along been taking an active role in fostering cooperation with provinces and cities on many fronts. He looked forward to frequent exchanges between audit professionals of Guizhou and Hong Kong in the future, and, on another note, urged Audit staff to continue to keep their minds open to the good practices of their Mainland counterparts and make constant progress. Tapping into the opportunities arising from the strong support from the Motherland and the close connections to the world, Audit staff should step up efforts in integrating into the nation’s development, promoting high quality development and striving for improving people’s lives.
Audit staff thanked the delegation of Guiyang Municipal Government
for visiting and were eager for the next meeting.
Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, and Mr Wang Hong,
Deputy Secretary of the CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee
and the Mayor of the Guiyang Municipal Government,
took a photo in front of the logo wall of the Audit office.
Officials of the delegation and Audit had a sharing session on the current situations
of Guiyang and Hong Kong and also the work of public sector auditing of the two cities.
The discussion enhanced the two parties’ understanding of each other.
Prof. Lam remarked that he had been encouraging his staff
to expand their horizons beyond Hong Kong,
and gain insights from the Mainland and the world.
Through continuously learning and honing their skills,
they would be well-equipped to give back to the society.
Mr Ken Liang, Deputy Director of Audit, briefed the delegation on
the work of Audit. Subjects of mutual interest were chosen from
Audit’s audit reports as topics of discussion and experience sharing.
Mr Wang, Mayor of Guiyang Municipal Government,
took time to read chapters on works-related issues in the Audit’s audit reports.
