Director of Audit spoke at graduation ceremony
of St. Francis Xavier College

In the afternoon of 17 May 2025 (Saturday), Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, served as a guest speaker at the graduation ceremony of St. Francis Xavier College. He shared on the theme “Serving Community with Knowledge and Action – Gentle and Resolute in Heart” with the Form 6 graduates, academic staff and other guests.

The Director not only shared with his audience a few moments of great importance to him on his paths of study, career and public service, but also gave a general picture of the mission and work of the Audit Commission (Audit) by giving a brief introduction of Audit, telling the good stories of public sector auditing. Prof. Lam believed that perpetual self-improvement was a key to achieving one’s goals, and that “chance favours the prepared mind”. He urged the students to keep making effort and equipping themselves, so that they could be ready to embrace, seize and make the most of opportunities that might come along.

In concluding his speech, Prof. Lam wished the graduates a bright future and shared with them a quote from Xunzi on Self-cultivation – “the destination may be near, yet one must still take steps to reach it; the task may be small, yet one must still take actions to complete it”, as a reminder to the students that on their future academic or career journey, they should be self-disciplined and earnest while striving for self-enhancement and readiness to act. In addition to developing their potentials, Prof. Lam added, the students should bear in mind to be “Gentle in Manner, Resolute in Action”, as their school motto went, in serving the society.
