At the invitation of the Audit Office of the Guangdong Province, the Audit Commission (Audit) sent a four-member delegation (comprising Assistant Director of Audit Flora Wan, Principal Auditor May Chan, Senior Auditor Alfred Wong and Senior Examiner Anthony Chu) to attend the 8th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Audit Conference 2025, which was themed “Empowerment by artificial intelligence and digital technologies in a local context – Innovative practices and high quality development of auditing in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”, from 2 to 4 December in Jiangmen city.

Assistant Director of Audit Flora Wan, who led the Audit delegation, said in her speech at the opening of the Conference that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC Central Committee) deliberated and adopted the “Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development”, making top-level designs and strategic plans for the country’s development over the next five years.  Working towards the aims of, among others, achieving greater self-reliance and strength in science and technology, promoting high-standard opening up and enhancing coordinated regional development, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region would continue to contribute its efforts, serve the public and better integrate into the national development plan.  In this context, Audit would steer towards research-based and big data audit, and utilise artificial intelligence to break through the limitations of conventional audit methodologies, thereby enhancing the quality of its audit work.  She looked forward to having thorough exchanges with Guangdong and Macao counterparts to learn from their experience and thoughts on the application of big data auditing.

During the Conference, representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao shared experiences and exchanged thoughts around the theme, with the common goal to contribute to our country’s development through public sector auditing.  In the big data auditing skills competition, Senior Auditor Alfred Wong showed how Audit made use of audit software to conduct smart audit analyses without writing computer codes, as a proactive response to the important instruction from President Xi Jinping that “the audit oversight system should cover all areas; and all the areas that should be audited will be audited to the fullest”.  Grateful for this experience of exchanging with and learning from fellows of the industry, the team was eager to integrate the gains from the Conference into work and showcase our country’s audit excellence to the world.

During the trip, the delegations also visited key industrial parks and attractions in Jiangmen city to learn about the latest development of various industries.
