Audit Commission held the first session of
“Value for Money Audit Workshops”
At the request of the Financial Secretary raised in the 2025-26 Budget, the Audit Commission (Audit) organises “Value for Money Audit Workshops” for the senior management of Government departments and public bodies, with an aim to foster the management’s understanding and adoption of principles and best practices in fiscal prudence and optimal use of public money. The first session of the workshops was held in the afternoon of 17 December (Wednesday) at the Central Government Offices, attracting an audience of about 130 members of the senior management of the Government.
During the workshop, Audit personnel presented on a variety of audit subjects and case studies, and elaborated on the findings and recommendations offered in previous audit projects, as well as the actions taken by the auditees in making improvements based on Audit’s recommendations. It is Audit’s hope to, through the workshop, assist its auditees in enhancing the economy, efficiency and effectiveness with which they discharge their functions, so as to improve their performance and accountability.
Prof. Nelson Lam, the Director of Audit, said on the workshop that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee made strategic plans for our country’s economic and social development for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. In this connection, the Commission will continue to make the best use of its audit efforts in serving the people, proactively dovetailing with the 15th Five-Year Plan, and better integrating into and serving the national development. In alignment with the aim of the Central Auditing Commission under the 20th CPC Central Committee to build a centralised, all-encompassing, authoritative and highly effective audit supervision system, Audit will maintain its focus in delivering its duties in public sector auditing with devotion, steadfastness and impartiality.
Prof. Lam took time to thank his staff for their efforts in organising the workshop. He also reminded them to stay committed to duty, turn the public’s expectation into a driving force for actions, and, with a strong people-oriented mindset and the power of public sector auditing, cooperate with every Government department in bringing stability and happiness to the people of Hong Kong.
