Audit volunteers visited elderly home to spread care
On the morning of 16 May 2026 (Saturday), a team of over 30 volunteers, comprising staff of the Audit Commission (Audit) and their family members, as well as staff of the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, visited the elderly residents of Ching Chung Home for the Aged in Tuen Mun. During the visit, the seniors and the volunteers had a wonderful time doing fun activities such as finger exercises, games and classic songs appreciation, which served as a bridge for interaction, integration and spread of kindness among the participants.
Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, also participated in the service event, which he found very meaningful. He thanked Audit’s Staff Welfare Association for organising the event and the volunteers for taking part in it, and said he was glad to see his colleagues live up to their ideals as servants of the public by contributing their free time to extend care to the elderly. He encouraged Audit staff to promote volunteer services to people around them as a way to fill the city with more love and care.
It goes without saying, according to Prof. Lam, that our seniors, having devoted so many years of their lives to bring about social growth, deserve respect and support in return from the society and a dignified, abundant life in their golden years. In line with the nation’s policies, Hong Kong has been putting in efforts in implementing strategies to cater for a silvering population. It takes both hardware and software to deliver our country’s aspiration to “ensure our elderly are provided for, well supported, enjoying life and living in comfort”. In addition to providing social hardware such as residential care and medical facilities, the right software – emotional support – is also crucial. Prof. Lam considered it vital to consistently express our admiration and affection to the elderly, so that they can live the blissful twilight years they have been longing for.
