Audit Commission hosted Work Experience Programme to guide secondary school students in navigating career options

On 9 July 2026 (Thursday), the Audit Commission (Audit), as a participating organisation of the Education Bureau’s Business-School Partnership Programme (BSPP), played host to 15 secondary school students at the Work Experience Programme (WEP). The WEP was intended to acquaint the students with the duties and operation of Audit and enhance their understanding in public auditing, so as to help them make informed plans for their future career.

“The itinerary of the one-day WEP was packed with activities, including a group mock audit examination project and presentation, a quiz game and an office tour, through all of which the students were led to learn about the responsibilities of an auditor, the operation of Audit and current affairs from multiple perspectives. The participating students appraised the WEP positively upon its conclusion, calling it a fulfilling and enriching event that deepened their knowledge in the work and missions of a public auditor. They were also impressed by the group mock audit examination project and presentation – which they described as an unforgettable and meaningful learning experience – as they had a real taste of audit work under the wholehearted mentoring of the Auditors of the Commission and in partnership with their fellow participants

Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, shared his own stories with the students at the WEP to motivate them to pursue their studies, and to give back and serve the society in the future. He highlighted the close link between the growth and development of the youth of the new era and the future of our country and Hong Kong. At this exciting juncture that marks the beginning of the National 15th Five-Year Plan, Prof. Lam places high hopes in our young people, who will grow to be an important force to contribute to our country and society through honing professional knowledge, keeping well-informed of current events and actively engaging in public affairs.

Prof. Lam also remarked that Hong Kong has been in full swing to promote economic growth and improve people’s livelihood, and is now at a critical stage of advancing from stability to prosperity. In this context, he encouraged the students to weigh in on Hong Kong’s First Five-Year Plan. It is his hope that the young people of Hong Kong will stand steadfast in their respective positions, fulfill their responsibilities, uphold integrity and play their part in building Hong Kong and promoting national development together.

As a participating organisation of the Education Bureau’s BSPP, Audit has organised several
WEPs in support of youth development work.

Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, encouraged the students to pursue their dreams with
courage, equip themselves and seize the opportunities bestowed upon the young generation by
the country during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.

The WEP was organised by the Corporate Services Division of Audit. During the event, staff of
the Division briefed the students of the history, duties and work of Audit.

Taking part in the WEP as mentors, our Auditors explained the work of Audit to the students and
guided them through a mock audit examination project.

The students made good use of what they just learned and presented the results of the mock audit
examination in groups.

Auditors of the Commission, who served as mentors at the WEP, found themselves inspired by
the students through the interactions.
