Audit Commission volunteers brought festive blessings and care to seniors ahead of National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival

On the morning of 5 September 2026 (Saturday), a team of nearly 20 volunteers led by Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, visited the Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Sham Shui Po). There, the volunteers joined the seniors of the centre for a morning packed with games, music and singing to welcome the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival.

Before the fun kicked off, Prof. Lam shared warm greetings with the seniors and expressed his delight in celebrating the joyful occasions with them. With this year marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Prof. Lam wished our country continued prosperity and peace. As the Mid-Autumn Festival is drawing near, he also wished the seniors a blissful time with their loved ones and vibrant health for both the body and the mind.

The day featured a wonderful lineup of activities. Under the enthusiastic guidance of the volunteers, the seniors were quickly warmed up and dived into the games. From cracking lantern riddles to tackling a fun quiz on national affairs, our sharp-witted seniors took it all in their stride. The festive atmosphere reached its peak towards the end of the event, as the volunteers and the seniors belted out a heartwarming rendition of the classic hit, “The Moon Represents My Heart”. With a senior centre member providing a beautiful live accompaniment on the harmonica, the room filled with a delightful blend of music and laughter, bringing the day to a pitch-perfect conclusion.

Prof. Lam extended special thanks to the Audit Commission’s volunteers for dedicating their spare time to planning and taking part in the event. Their efforts not only delivered love and festive blessings to the seniors but also strengthened community ties, showcasing the Commission’s commitment and care for the elderly. Looking ahead, Prof. Lam expressed his hope to see more of these meaningful activities being held, keeping the flow of love, laughter and companionship alive and well throughout the community.
